As an aside, we're also excited to soon be leaving winter behind permanently, and adopting a 'bi-coastal' lifestyle here at Rose City Software. We just purchased a place near sunny Austin, Texas...

With each edition we will try to bring you a useful software you don't have to pay for... just as we did in previous months. Some are direct from Rose City and some are great toys and tools we have discovered elsewhere that we think you will like! This month, we have a handy freeware tool called HTTrack which can neatly gobble up all the links of a website and create a local version for you to browse offline. This can be useful when travelling, or whenever you don't have internet access... or for a website that is just so good you want to save it to your disk before it disappears. We've used it several times to save a whole website to disk just days before it vanished from the web! HTTrack is a free open source and easy-to-use offline browser utility for Windows 9x/NT/2000/XP, which allows you to download a World Wide Web site from the Internet to a local directory, building recursively all directories, getting HTML, images, and other files from the server to your computer. 
HTTrack arranges the original site's relative link-structure. Simply open a page of the 'mirrored' website in your browser, and you can browse the site from link to link, as if you were viewing it online. HTTrack can also update an existing mirrored site, and resume interrupted downloads. HTTrack is fully configurable, and has an integrated help system. You will always hear about them first at our site at Rose City Software or There were several important Windows updates in the past couple months - here's one of the latest: MS08-024: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (Critical) Date last published: April 8, 2008 This critical update addresses a vulnerability which could allow remote code execution if a user viewed a specially crafted Web page using Internet Explorer. Users whose accounts are configured to have fewer user rights on the system could be less impacted than users who operate with administrative user rights.
