MAPI stands for Messaging Application Programming Interface. MAPI provides a way for different applications to work together to send email. In its most common use, MAPI allows a user to send an email from another application, such as using the "Send to Mail Recipient" from within Microsoft Word or "Send Page by Email" in Internet Explorer.
